Pre-School
Our
unique pre-school program continues to foster friendships,
co-operation and problem solving skills. We provide your child with
enriched learning experiences that promote literacy, creativity
and critical thinking skills.

There
are four levels of pre-school for ages 2 1/2 to 5 years that
include:
- Junior Pre-School
- Senior Pre-School
- Kinderfriends
- Kindergartens
Literature:
Children love stories
and drama and these are an essential part of our
program. We believe, however, that self-expression is extremely
important
as well. Acting out stories and creating art from stories
we have read
fosters a sense of self-confidence.
Imagination is
encouraged and listening skills are enhanced by listening
to poems and creating our own illustrations. Our children
have novels
read to them on a daily basis. This promotes discussion and
enhances
listening comprehension skills. Novel study usually includes
books
such as Charlotte's Web, Stuart Little and The Hobbit.

Pre-Reading:
We offer challenging
games to the children which creates an
opportunity to recognize both the letter itself as well as
it's sound.
Rhyming helps to make the leap from letter recognition to
"sounding out" first words. Printing helps with
our letter and sound
recognition as well as taking them from the triumph of writing
their
names, to copying their own stories. Our kinders use the Junior
Edition of the Phonics Game.
Pre-Math:
We explore math
concepts by playing games and developing recall.
Through number games the children are encouraged to recognize
numbers from 1 - 20, addition to 10 and subtraction by ones.
When
engaged in songs, card games, counting games and active games,
numbers are perceived as fun. We are proud of the rich resources
that we have to work with on a daily basis. Our computer programs
are also an important part of our pre-math program.
Learning Concepts:
Our Kinderfriends
and Kindergarten programs include some desk
work and the use of many learning materials, including carefully
selected worksheets. Activities include sequencing, seriation,
classification, number concepts, matching and addition.
Other areas of
our program include:
Construction Zones
- for large block play and smaller manipulative
such as Lego, K^nex, etc. Dramatic Play, Table Toys, Creative
Art,
Sensory Experiences, Science Activities, Project Work and
Small
Group Times.

Additional enrichment
includes daily music activities and opportunities
along with formal music lessons with Kindermusic once
a week.
Field trips are a very big part of our program. During the
year,
pre-schoolers go on at least one major trip a month along
with a
few neighbourhood excursions. During the summer months, we
usually go on trips once a week. Our Kinder Program goes on
trips
3-5 times a week during July and August. We take lots of pictures
to
share our experiences with you and of course, you are always
welcome to join us.
Inter-Generational
Program:
We have an ongoing
relationship with our friends at Kensington Village
and visit with the seniors there every month. We sing songs
with them
and enjoy their company.
